Studio Policies: Welcome

PRIVATE LESSON POLICIES

General policies:

  • Payment Options: â€‹

    • Registration and Total Semester Payments for the Fall semester or payments for the entire year can be made up front

    • For private lessons there may be consideration for monthly payments if we are set up as a  recurring payee. In this case first and last month payments will be made up front and are non-refundable. Late payments will incur a late processing fee.

  • For any last minute absences, late lessons, or cancellations there will not be make up lessons offered. Even if there is communication ahead of time, there will still be a charge for the lesson. We are making ourselves available to teach the lessons for the year, so the student is committing to the time as well. Considerations will be made on an individual basis in exceptional circumstances such as injury or extended illness.

Parents during lessons:

  • We ask that you park on the street for lesson drop-off/ pick-up as we also will be doing group lessons and reserve the driveway for that to ensure smooth transitions for everyone.

  • You are welcome to stay during the lesson, Thursday lessons will be in our upper music area which is smaller, but we can allow for 1-2 extra people to sit during the lesson in that space.

To the students:

  • Music is fun and it is meant to be enjoyed. It does take hard work, but it pays off.  We all have bad days and sometimes you will have to practice something you don’t like, but trust me it will help you! Make sure you understand what is being taught. Ask lots of questions. We want you to understand what we are teaching you because we care and want you to be a better musician.

  • The only way to get better at anything is by practicing consistently. Plan ahead and set time aside every day. It is incredibly helpful for parents to be involved as well! The suggested and expected practice time is 4-6 days per week for 30 minutes.

MYC CLASS POLICIES

Here are some policies to keep us all on the same page and help things run smoothly during lessons. Let me know if you have any other questions.

General policies:

  • Payment Options: â€‹

    • Registration and Total Semester Payments for the Fall semester or payments for the entire year can be made up front

  • For any last minute absences, late lessons, or cancellations there will not be make up lessons offered. Even if there is communication ahead of time, there will still be a charge for the lesson as that spot cannot be filled for that class by someone else, each spot is a commitment of both the studio and the student for that block. I will send a copy of the homework page which also outlines what we covered in class for your reference at home so you can cover what you can together at home.

  • The procedure above will happen in inclement weather as well.

Parent involvement for MYC:

  • Cell Phones- we ask parents to keep their phones on silent and refrain from using their phones during lessons so as to avoid distractions for students

  • This is meant to be a special opportunity for you to connect one on one with your child, we fill lessons with games, songs, movement, and things that are meant to create rich learning and wonderful memories for both you and your child. We invite parents to take the lead in being involved in class activities and lessons and to engage their children in the lessons in meaningful ways.

  • This is a time for you and your child to focus on music together. Therefore, I ask that no siblings (who are not a part of the class) be brought to music class, allowances may be made for babies who aren't mobile in the Sunrise Class.

  • To keep things separate between my husband's lessons and mine, we are asking my students to park in the driveway and come in the Garage entrance. Please be aware, the slope is quite steep to get into our driveway and is best done slowly and at an angle.

  • Class homework will be posted in the entrance, please take a photo of it upon entering/ exiting the entrance.

  • We welcome any further questions, so please reach out if anything comes up for you!

Important to note:

As the MYC class is comprehensive music class that teaches piano (keyboarding), it is important to have a keyboard at home for your child to use. If you do not have one and are looking to purchase I highly recommend getting one with weighted keys and even a pedal so students can use the keyboard throughout their musical education. These can be more costly so if you are looking for somewhere else to start it should at least have touch sensitive keys so students can start to properly practice dynamics and know what pressure to push with as they play. If you don’t currently have one I could lend you one from our studio for the year for a refundable deposit of $50, but these do not have the touch sensitivity and I have limited available.
